How Many Email Addresses?

For several years now, I have enjoyed the benefit of having a few domains, and being able to make up email addresses for each of them. It makes filing incoming email that much easier, and I used to think there was some benefit in “not giving out my main address”.

However, I am starting to mull over the possibility of retreating to one email address for everything. I can still file incoming email by sender/subject/list/etc.

Why? Because every time I make up a new alias that goes with some specific email list, or that deals with a specific company, it becomes one more target for spammers. It becomes a job of sorts, having to kill off certain aliases here and there in order to cut down on email.

My ISP (Sonic.Net) has an excellent SpamAssassin setup. I get a report every day of over 100 trapped spams. On one oddball day recently it was 445!

I wonder what others have concluded. If you own your own domain, are you still making up new aliases all of the time, and then killing them off later, or are you sticking with one address for everything (knowing that something like SpamAssassin is going to catch most of the spam?)
