The Great Lawn
Sunday was a full day for me, ranging from the late night still air of Petaluma, to the humidity and activity of the protesters who made their way up to Central Park’s Great Lawn.
5 pm. Just back in the City from JFK. Let’s drop the luggage at the apt and take a walk…
I walked around CP, over to Sheep Meadow, over by the Roller Skaters. Looked like a mellow Sunday to me. Perhaps the anarchists were flinging frisbees with affixed razor blades? Where there any Vegan Grannies
spewing vitriol at Riot Police?
Hmm, so I walked up to the The Great Lawn. The most violent thing that
happened was that someone hit a baseball (since, after all, the GL is
ringed by a half-dozen or so baseball diamonds) that came close to hitting
me and a few other people on the lawn. No biggie.
As an aside, it was a biggie for those unlucky enough to be arrested for being spectators with cameras at the Critical Mass ride. Let’s hope this is an isolated incident from the NYPD this week. All of the cops I’ve seen yesterday and today have looked friendly.
I’m sorry that I only had my Nokia 3650 phone with me. I get
more clarity out of my zoom blur photos with any of our Nikon SLRs…
But hey, I was there, and that’s what I had :-)
Let’s see that crowd:
You know, the Parks Department didn’t want people trashing their
Great Lawn, and were instrumental in getting the rally permit denied.
How does this lawn look?
And even if the lawn did get trampled, I’m sure the Billionaires For Bush
(a spoof theatre group) would kick in a pretty penny for its rehabilitation:
Exactly:
Any mellower, and I’m going to fall asleep:
These two (in the duct tape) made it pretty far. I’ve seen photos of
them walking through Times Square. The woman in the middle very
much wanted her picture taken with them, and donned said duct tape.
Hee hee
