Saturday, August 30 is Offline Day!

I am declaring a little holiday:  Offline Day

On Saturday, August 30, I am going to pretend it is the 1970’s — at least for the online aspect.

  • not going to twitter
  • or go on Second Life
  • or use the web, or blog
  • or check my email
  • or use my cell phone (or anyone else’s, if I can help it :)

I just want to have a day of being able to turn it all off.  Believe me, I am a total online mammal, so this is not as easy as it sounds.  This will be a day of being out and enjoying, and thinking back to a much simpler time, before we had all this tech.

And Sunday?  Well, that is the day to apologize to everyone for not being online Saturday!

Anyone with me?  (I’ll do it anyway :)

Take a walk. Shop for UNelectronic stuff. Sit in a coffee shop (not Starbucks). Read the newspaper in PAPER format! Don’t even watch TV or listen to the radio! Spend the afternoon napping and reading a book!

With you, Bucky! And let’s not apologise…

Not a bad idea. It would have been nice to have more lead time. I need to get prepared. Get some nice soothing medications. Time to ease into this. A minute today, 5 minutes tomorrow, and so on.

Wait, you must have meant 8/30/2009! Whew!

Lead Time!? It’s all month :)

No problem. That’s Labor Day weekend. I’ll be where I have no access to SL, possibly no computer access at all.

I’ll be busy having fun with friends and will catch up on SL during the week after Labor Day.

    Best wishes to everyone.

I will try, but so much of my work and social life is tied to the internet… And you mean no computer so I can’t even catch up on my photoshop projects. And no iPhone, no music, no audiobooks, no podcasts. You are really asking a lot. I’m with Hollyjean, may need to work up to a whole day.

Hmmm. Maybe. I’ve had too many days when my RL kept me too busy to get inworld. I’m feeling more of a pull to an inworld vacation than a vacation from the online world in general. *grin*

A computer off the net could be fine.. I figure everyone will interpret this to fit their own needs (and hey, I had an Atari 400 in 1979!) I’m not handing out medals for ‘best offline performance’ ;)

The spirit of it is.. we’re all blanketed with cell / twitter / web 2.0 / sl and who knows what else. Just a day to back away from that. All of this tech sorta snuck up on us.
