A Banzai Run - Claremont (video)

Adam Kimmel presents: Claremont HD from adam kimmel on Vimeo.

If you have done downhill runs, you will know.  FF to 2:30 if you want to get to the run itself.

Closest I have come to this level (which is, not very!) is Mirror Lake, Yosemite.

This is the real deal — gives me the muscle memory twitches :)

Do not attempt!

Daniel

Farewell Schumacher

Farewell to Michael Schumacher, who retired from Formula One racing today after 16 seasons. I got see him race a few times: Nurburgring ‘99, Australia ‘00, and Monaco ‘00. He was the best driver of his generation, bar none. It was the combination of Michael, Ross Brawn, and Jean Todt that jelled Scuderia Ferrari. There will be gaping holes for them in 2007. Will Kimi Raikkonen be able to fill the boots of the missing Schu? He’s good …

His longtime rival, Mika Hakkinen, flew in to Brasil to see the last race. It was typical of Michael to battle back from being nearly a lap down, to finishing in 4 place. One has to wonder if he would have won, were it not for a tire puncture early on.

Speaking of Mika, I will never forget The Pass at Spa ‘00 … Simply Epic. I miss their rivalry.

I’ll refer to my fave F1 photographers at Schlegelmilch.com for shots of Michael and Ferrari. (I blame the Schlegelmilch family for getting me started on zoom blurs :-)

AdBowl Sunday

Huh? It’s Super Bowl Sunday? Oh, yes. That.

At some earlier point, I used to care about the NFL and the Super Bowl. I was a big 49′ers fan (sitting in the rain at Candlestick for a big game versus Green Bay was a highlight - going to a couple of Championship parades down Market Street, etc.)

But then I went to 6 World Cup games at Stanford in 1994 … I probably have more of a handle on what’s happening in the English Premier League than the NFL. Maybe the sports authorities will have me deported to the UK for some sort of Unpatriotic League Allegiance. Yeah, and I much prefer to Formula One to NASCAR! (ed note: digging a hole here.. just got dropped from a lot of party invites) In both cases, I’d say the level of skill is higher! (ed note: well, that’ll do it, just got added to lists of parties involving English, Brazilian, Dutch, Italian, and German fans).

But aside from all that, I’ll watch the Game for the Ads. I’ll also root for Seattle, because I love that town - almost bought a house in Green Lake once. By the way, Pittsburgh, I like your Warhol Museum and the river and hills, and hope to visit again someday.

Go Madison Avenue! Go Seahawks!

Note To Phil Jackson

Dear Phil Jackson, Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers:

I was born in Los Angeles, and I hope you will consider my special request today.

Do Not Start Karl Malone In Any More Games Against The Pistons!

Holy Mother of Abraham Lincoln! Do the words “ability to rebound” resonate with you? Karl’s knee couldn’t get him to skip over a referee’s whistle right now, much less go up bangin’ for a board against the likes of Rasheed Wallace.

Karl’s gotta sit this out, for the good of the team. The Mailman is a liability right now. If his knee is not 100%, please keep him on the bench.

… or it’s going to be one long summer for you Phil, sitting up there in Alaska fishing, wondering why you didn’t get that last ring.

respectfully submitted by a lifelong Lakers fan,

Daniel

p.s. could we get the ball to Shaq a little more? thanks!
